Louise Cooper

We are very sad to report the death of Louise Cooper, yesterday, at the age of 57. Thoughts of the entire society go to her husband, Cas Sandall, and family.

Louise wrote over 50 novels, delighting fantasy readers of all ages, and in 1999 was a Guest of Honour at our convention, FantasyCon. In 2000 the BFS produced a collection of her short stories, The Spiral Garden. Jan Edwards, who edited the book, described her today as a "lovely lady", and said that she was devastated by the news.

In her introduction to The Spiral Garden, Diana Wynne Jones said Louise was "a born writer", who probably had "more imagination than any other writer". Stan Nicholls said today, "Louise was a wonderful person and an exceptional writer."

I read Ms. Cooper's Indigo series and immensely enjoyed it and meant to contact her and let her know how her books touched me.

Rest in peace and God bless,
Troy

Very upset to hear of the death of Louise. A wonderful writer, kind, thoughtful and friendly. She penned a Doctor Who Novella (RIP TIDE) for our Telos Novellas range and was kind and supportive to all manner of projects. A sad loss indeed.

As a close friend of hers for 35 years, I can't praise her writing ability highly enough. She was also a witty, compassionate, sensitive person with a wicked sense of humour. Anyone who has heard her sing will know that she also had the most exquisite voice and could master any instrument she set her hand to. She encouraged me with my own writing and my music and songs and we were about to embark on some musical and publishing ventures together. Her death is a dreadful shock and I, too, am devastated. It has left a huge, dark void in my life. My deepest sympathies go to her husband Cas, and to her legion of friends and ardent fans.
